Impressive how advanced the fakes have gotten. Thanks for the information. The fake 146 could pass more as a fake 147 since those don’t have ink windows and their blind caps also screw out, albeit with a cartridge caddy attached.

Stephen, great video! I want to point out that as long ago as mid 2014, some of the markings have changed according to posts on well known fountain pen forums (fora?), and in my own experience. I have a 149 I purchased new a couple of weeks ago from an online, gray market dealer, with box and paperwork. I am 100% certain it is authentic. Mirroring what I have read posted from a purchaser at a MB boutique, my 149 does not say “Germany” on the clip ring. The underside of the clip reads “Metal GERMANY Pix” with the Pix in a cursive font. And Pix indeed appears on the band in the same cursive font as well. In both instances, Pix is followed by a registered trademark symbol. Lastly, the serial number, which is on the clip ring, is a 9-digit alphanumeric, with, letters in places 1-4 and 8. These of course match the serial number one the sticker of the box. Lastly, the engravings on the nib are different from older 149 nibs I have seen. This can be noted from pictures on the MB website itself.

That was really fascinating, to be able to see the real and fakes side-by-side! Thank you, Stephen, for the video, and thank you to the person who provided the pens. Thank you also to Azizah for the high resolution photos, which really show the differences clearly. It’s amazing how close they are on first glance.
